Brewery Ommegang

Brewery Ommegang – Cooperstown, NY

http://www.ommegang.com/

The king of them all!  Currently our #1 brewery.  The beer is great, the grounds are great, the cafe is very good…everything is wonderful.

We took a weekend trip to Cooperstown, NY just to go to the brewery – not the Baseball Hall of Fame.  It is about a 10 minute drive outside of town through the gently rolling hills.  They open at 11am – perfect timing to take the tour and start your sampling right about noon.  It did get pretty full quickly, so definitely try for the first tour is possible.  The tour was about 20 mins, then you return to the building where the cafe and gift shop is  for the tasting.  once you get some samples, head inside and get a seat at the bar or community style tables to continue the dream.  Once you had your fill, the gift shop is right there on your way out.

As for the beer – where to begin?  Jason is a huge belgian beer guy, and its growing on Lyssa.  Three Philosophers is Jason’s current favorite beer for a special ocassioon, and we both love the Abbey – which won the best Abbey style in the world!  We got a few bottles to age at home as they will continue to improve for 3 years.    Lyssa loved the Chocolate Indulgence which is a limited run production, so if you go or ever see it, buy it!

Not sure what else to say – Its our favorite place for all the right and wrong reasons – if you live in the area…go.  If you don’t live in the area…get there.  Check out their site for events that the have throughout the year on the beautiful ground at the base of the hills.  We will be going back in the fall to see the show that nature puts on with the trees changing colors – maybe for the ‘Puppets and Waffles” celebration – hope to see you there!
