Stoudt’s Brewery – Adamstown, PA

Update October 2014:  Anyone who knows us, knows that we live right by Stoudts and we spend a lot of time there. It was probably the place that led us to start this site and write about our experiences. Since we last updated this review, we have gotten to know Carol and Ed a great deal more. Carol Loves seeing Mia, and we enjoy spending time in ‘The Nursery’ and spending time with the staff. Carol threw a birthday party for Mia when she turned 1 which was incredibly sweet and generous of her. Presents, cake….the whole 9.

Now that Mia is on the move quite a bit more, we don’t get to hang out as long as we would like, but we still make a few weekly trips to see Nora, Anita, Tara and the whole crew. The brew staff is also a good bunch of guys, we get a chance to talk with Gary and Matt quite regularly and Brett helped us out with a tough to come by sixtel – much appreciated.

If you have the chance, stop by and check it out – its not often that you get a chance to hang out with a cool staff, the brewers, and if you are lucky, the first lady of Micro-Brew!

Update July 2012:  Well, its a sad time for us.  In recent months Sean has left and last weekend Mike was removed from the staff.  Will have to see how things shake out in the future.  Best of luck to everyone, its sad to see friends depart.

Update January 2012:  Our favorite place continues to get better – and it is really centered around the staff.  We have really gotten to spend more time with Dave (Manager) and its been great.  He knows just about everything regarding the history of any location within 100 miles of Adamstown, amazing.  We also have learned to appreciate the entertainment of Duncan  – fun guy!  A few weeks ago I got to speak briefly with Ed and Carol and it was a pleasure.  Hopefully you guys get to check out the site sometime!  If you still have not stopped in, you have to get there some how, some way and tell them who sent you!

Stoudt’s is our favorite Microbrewery as they make Fat Dog and we love it!  Fat Dog is named after a black labrador retriever that lives on the grounds – if you attend a beerfest you might see him.  As an oatmeal stout, it has few peers, only Sam Smith’s is in the same league as far as we are concerned.  Lyssa always says that she has not been able to find a beer in all of the galaxy that the likes better and compares all beers to it.

We go to Stoudt’s often since it’s so close to us – about a 5 minute walk.  We know many of the staff so it makes it even better (Thanks to Sean, Mike and Nora behind the bar!) – generally, upon entry we walk in and they immediately pour us two fat dogs cause it’s the only one Lyssa (and normally Jason) gets.  Sometimes Jason will get the seasonal, Mai Bock or the Abbey Triple.  The menu has a few standout items; The burger & pulled pork are both wonderful – much of the rest is German food and Lyssa has a hard time with it.  She does like the burgers and chicken sandwich!   Our only problem with Stoudt’s is they do not have growlers!  If you ever stop by, please tell Ed or Carol (owners) that you would love to buy one for your collections!

This is one of the few 5 GizMog locations we have, so make the drive, even if its a long one and give it a try!  Keep your eye on their website for their beerfests and other special events, they are all a great time!  Just writing this review made us thirsty!
