Dogfish Head

Dogfish Head – Rehoboth Beach, DE

Having a few extra hotel points that were about to expire and a few days with no plans, we finally took the drive to Dogfish.

We left the day after Thanksgiving and spent 2 days in Rehoboth.  We were expecting the town to be dead as you find with other shore towns, but we were very wrong.  The town was packed and seemed like a summer weekend.  We wanted to go for dinner on Friday night so we stopped in at about 7pm.  The bar was packed, 2 people deep all around – no seats to be had.  We decided to go upstairs to one of the cocktail tables and go the traditional route.  We had a great server, a sampler and another drink or 2, but it wasn’t the experience we were looking for.  We had to go back!

Dogfish opens at noon, so jokingly we said we might have to go early and wait in line.  Not a joke.  About 11:40 people started lining up.  This time we got to the bar – and we were happy.  All of the bartenders were great, but we ended up having Kelly take care of us throughout the day.  Kelly was great and really took care of us.  She was very personable, fun and provided samples without even asking.  This was a great example of the staff completing the full experience.  If you are not familiar with the beer, which would be a surprise, there is a large selection of very unique options.  Lyssa loved the Bitches Brew and Jason was sticking to the Palo Santo – but we did sample many others.  As a side note, the 75 minute that was on cask really seemed to take the edge of the hoppy character that the ‘Minute’ series is known for, very good.  We also tried the spirits that were brewed in-house and enjoyed the White Light in a Rum and Diet.

Ultimately we left the bar 4 hrs after sitting down, meeting some great people and having a few drinks.  Those few drinks were the only thing that eased the pain of the $214.00 bill.  Sometimes it happens – and t did include souvineers and Christmas presents from the gift shop.  You gotta go, try the strong, well crafted beer…but get there at 11:40am or your ass isn’t gettin’ a bar stool!
