We had a few recommendations for this place so we thought we would check it out.  Took the 1.5 hr drive on Saturday for Lyssa’s birthday to see what it was all about.  We were told the town is nice as well, ala Lititz, but the weather prevented us from verifying this.  So onto the Brewery.

We parked on the main drag and walked around back of the older building.  The entrance is tucked underneath the building with a few tables just outside the door on the patio.  Upon entering, it was tough to see what was going on.  Its dark, rustic and pretty small.  After the eyes adjusted and fighting our way through the people waiting for a table, we saw that the bar was full.  The tables were full.  People were standing around trying to find someone to guide them.  confusion abound!

After 5 mins or so a girl wondered behind the bar and got us a drink.  From there on we tried to corner seats, lost them to some snaky local guy and ended up with a single on the end.  Sometimes I guess you have to stand to eat.  To sum it up, the beer was ok – the nitro Stout was above average as was the brown…also on nitro (keep this in mind for later in the story).  The food was actually pretty good, considering it often sat on the bar waiting for 15 minutes before someone delivered it to its owner.  The kitchen had 4 people working it and then there was the problem.  2 girls took care of bar tending, hostessing and serving the 15 or so tables.  2 people!!!!  There were people inside and outside…and it was 2pm, not even prime time.

So, what can you do?  We decided to pack it in after 2 beers, get a growler and go.  Lyssa asked for the stoudt…no go.  they don’t do it.  Say it goes flat too fast.  Ok, so how about you tell a customer that and let them decide?  Most people know this anyway.  So…Lyssa said forget it and just pass the check.

If not for the food you would see zero GizMogs below.  The day was not all lost as we took the drive back through seemingly abandoned towns and ended up at a lovely place in Adamstown :)  If you want to make the drive, go for it…but we remember we didn’t tell you to do it!
